FAQ

How much hair do I need?

Ladies with thin hair wear +/- 100 strands.  You may need more than +/- 150 strands If the hair is very thick and heavy or cut in layers.  A bob or short hair +/- 180 strands.

How are the extensions attached to my own hair?

Human hair extensions are securely sealed into place using a specially formulated bonding about 1cm from the root area. As with the fibre extensions your own hair is not harmed in any way. The extension can easily be removed by using a special surgical spirits based removal solution.

Will the extensions damage my own hair?

NO!  (Not if you go to an Experienced Stylist at a reputable salon). Whether synthetic fibre or human hair extensions are chosen, neither system will degrade the quality of your own hair.  Your own hair continues to grow as normal.  For client’s who wish to have extensions to improve fine or damaged hair, I would recommend the use of protein and moisture products to improve the quality of their own hair growth whilst wearing the extensions. Using the wrong products, tight clips, bleach powder, wrongful use of tints, perms, home perms, wrong brushing, etc.

Will the extensions fall out?

NO!!  But over the life of the extensions (three to four months), a few individual extensions will come out.  This is quite normal and won’t affect the finished look (a full head of extensions usually involves attaching more than 200 small sections!).  Hair swells 4 times the thickness when it is wet.  If your client sleeps with wet hair this might be the cause.  The hair forces the bonds open.  She will either have a lot of loose hair or the bonds will slide out.

How long can my extensions be?

You can have any length you want up to about 26”-30”. Any natural hair over this length is about 8 – 10 years old at the ends (i.e. it took the person that long to grow it for you) and as such loses quality. Also, anything longer than this puts extra weight on your scalp which may lead to uneven pressure and damage to your own hair. The best looking hair extensions for average height women are usually around 18” or less.  Our most popular length is 22” which is +/- 10 inch under your bra line.

Can I wear my hair up?

Sure, the Extensions should not be applied any lower than the base of your scalp (about even with the middle of your ears) and so your hair under this point covers the extensions while you wear it in pigtails, ponytails, French twists, French braids, etc.

Can I get a refund?

Many things can go wrong with hair extensions.  They can severely damage the natural hair; even cause permanent hair loss in some cases. If poor quality hair is used, the result can be severe tangling and matting after several shampoos.

Problems begin when the extensions are not attached properly, removed properly and maintained properly daily.

With very few exceptions, all hair extensions are a non-refundable service.

How do I take care of the extensions?

Wash, condition and MOISTURISE (very important) your hair every 2 – 3 days.  Use only a soft bristle brush.  The extensions do not receive your natural scalp oils and so need to have moisture added to every wash.  If you don’t moisturize your hair extensions with a silicone treatment, they will become brittle and break easily leading to slit and ratty ends. Always brush out all knots before you wash your hair, swim or sleep. Start at the bottom and work your way up slowly using a soft bristle brush. Make sure you wash in between the bonding to keep your scalp CLEAN and FREE OF BACTERIA.

Does it hurt?  Will it pull my hair out?

NO, NO, NO!!!  If it hurts get out of there!  The Extensions Artist should bond the tracks firmly but comfortably.  The tension should be even all over your head with no points pulling or hurting.  Do not put up with someone telling you it has to be really tight in order to be secure.  Pulling your hair out is not the idea.  You will know you have something on your head for the first day or two but after that you won’t even feel that they are there.

How long will my extensions last?

This will depend partly upon the style chosen.  Natural hair growth will continue as normal (approximately 1cm per month), so for natural looking styles we recommend removal after three to four months.  However, some styles just require a visit to the salon EVERY FOUR TO SIX WEEKS for a couple of hour’s worth of restyling.  If the extensions are looked after, hair gets removed, re-bonded and re-applied.

What about my re-growth? I’m a natural brunette but want blond extensions

Easy.  The stylist has to work around the extensions.  This makes your colour cheaper because effectively you only colour the crown and hairline. It also means that the hair in the strands remains virgin and when you eventually have the extensions off your own hair is in brilliant condition.  Although you can color your extensions with your own hair, if you wish to change your hair color, with dark hair you can go lighter, but if you go much darker with blond hair your bonds might show too light and will be noticeable.
